Passive soil gas survey helps pinpoint the source of contamination over a large area where a conventional investigation would be time consuming and expensive. At a large Hillsborough, New Jersey site, PCE was detected in groundwater in a series of monitoring wells across the site, and its source had not yet been identified. Prestige Environmental conducted a passive soil vapor survey and identified equipment shed as the source of PCE. Removal of only 50 tons of PCE-impacted soil helped lower the PCE levels in groundwater.
